One dojo. One standard.
Three ways to train.
Budo Karate is the heart of everything we teach. Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts extend the same principles — timing, distance, efficiency — to grappling and the full range of combat. Every program, one culture of respect.
Kids & Teens Karate
Children at Rokah Karate don’t just learn to kick and punch — they learn to focus, to persevere, and to carry themselves with quiet confidence. Classes are grouped by belt level so every child trains with peers on the same step of the path, and small groups mean real correction, not crowd management.
Progress here means something. Belt promotions are earned against real standards — the same standards that have produced over 100 black belts — so when your child ties on a new belt, they know exactly what it cost and what it’s worth.
Adult Karate
Where else can you learn directly from a 9th dan world champion — in a regular weekly class, not a rare seminar? Sensei Avi teaches every adult class personally, and beginners get the same attention as black belts. You don’t need to be in shape to start; the training builds you.
Budo karate develops power through precision — correct structure, timing, and breathing rather than muscle. That’s why it works at 25 and keeps working at 65: a complete practice for the body and a moving meditation for the mind.
- Beginner track — fundamentals of stance, movement, and technique, built from zero at your pace.
- Advanced track — deep kata study, kumite strategy, and the finer principles of the Nishiyama system.
Jiu-Jitsu & Wrestling
Striking teaches you to control the space between you and an opponent; grappling teaches you what to do when that space disappears. Our Jiu-Jitsu program brings the ground game to the same disciplined floor — expert instruction, a supportive culture, and conditioning that complements karate training beautifully.
- Youth Jiu-Jitsu (ages 8–15) — Mon & Wed 6–7pm, Sun 12–1pm.
- Adult Jiu-Jitsu — Mon & Wed 8:45–9:45pm, right after adult karate for easy cross-training.
Mixed Martial Arts, built on budo fundamentals.
Most MMA gyms teach aggression first and principles later, if ever. We’re doing the opposite: a program where striking and grappling are unified by the concepts that make traditional karate devastatingly effective — timing, distance, and efficiency over brute force.
Teens and adults train together, Fridays 5–6pm, beginning September 4, in the same culture of respect that governs every class on this floor. The founding cohort is limited; reserving a spot is free and carries no obligation.
Two ways onto the floor.
Kids & teens: the assessment class
Every child begins with a paid assessment class, scheduled personally by phone — not booked online. Sensei evaluates their level and places them in the right group; it's how we keep standards high for every student on the floor.
- Call (310) 463-2385 — assessment classes are scheduled personally by phone.
- Your child trains a real class with Sensei observing.
- You get an honest evaluation and a group placement.
Adults: your first class is free
No contracts, no experience needed, no fitness prerequisites. Wear comfortable clothes, arrive ten minutes early, and step onto the floor.
- Pick a beginner class — Tue or Thu, 7:45pm.
- Train the full class alongside our students.
- Stay after with any questions for Sensei.
Before your first class.
Does my child need any experience to start?
None at all. The assessment class exists precisely so we can meet your child where they are — complete beginners are placed with the white and yellow belt group and build from the very first stance.
I'm an adult and haven't exercised in years. Is this realistic?
Yes — and you won’t be alone. Budo karate builds power through correct technique rather than athleticism, and the beginner track assumes nothing. You don’t get in shape to train; you train to get in shape.
What should we wear to a first class?
Comfortable athletic clothes are perfect. A gi (uniform) comes later, once you or your child decides to continue training.
Can I train both karate and Jiu-Jitsu?
Absolutely — many students do, and the schedule is built for it. Adult Jiu-Jitsu runs directly after adult karate on Mondays and Wednesdays, so you can train both in one evening.
Is the MMA class suitable for complete beginners?
Yes. The founding cohort starts together on Friday, September 4, 2026, building from fundamentals — and because it’s grounded in budo principles, careful technique comes before intensity. Teens and adults train together under full supervision.

Begin. That is the hardest technique.
